Relying on skill and precision, rather than pure strength, Short Mat Bowls appeals to all ages and abilities. It is played with exactly the same bowls as the better-known outdoor game of Lawn Bowls, but played on special mats, rather than grass.
Its not a ‘past-time for pensioners’, as some might think, but a popular, fully-fledged, all-year international sport. There are nearly 60 clubs in the Cork Zone alone and they play in many tournaments, league and national competitions over the Winter months.
So why not give it a try? Everyone is welcome and everyone gets a game, beginner or expert.
